Our experience with Social Security disability claims in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Missouri

Jon Walker

I earned my law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law, where I was a finalist in the Frederick Green Moot Court Competition as well as being an active member of the law school ice hockey team.

I joined Katz Friedman in the spring of 2007 and focus my practice on representing injured individuals throughout the State of Illinois in workers’ compensation, Social Security disability, and personal injury claims.

I am a member of the following professional organizations:

  • The Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Association (WCLA).
  • The Chicago Bar Association Workers’ Compensation Committee.
  • The Chicago Bar Association Social Security Disability Committee.
  • The Chicago Bar Association Tort Litigation Committee.
  • The National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR).
  • The Illinois State Bar Association.

When I am not fighting for my clients, you can find me watching Fighting Illini Basketball, lifting weights, playing ice hockey, and boxing at the Evanston Boxing Club. I also volunteer with ARF House Chicago animal rescue and am active with several wildlife and ecological conservation programs.

Richard Johnson

I have been representing injured workers at Katz Friedman since 1983.

In addition to my work here, I have spoken at American Bar Association meetings across the country on such topics as:

  • How to prove a repetitive trauma claim.
  • How to cross-examine a medical expert.
  • The ethics of legal solicitation and advertising.

I have also authored articles on workers’ compensation topics for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and the Tort and Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association.

In 2009 I was selected by my peers as an Illinois Super Lawyer in the field of Workers’ Compensation.

When I am not in trial or negotiating settlements, I can be found downhill skiing, hiking or golfing with my family.

I am a member of the Workers’ Compensation Lawyer’s Association and the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Illinois State Bar Association. I have also presented seminars to the Illinois State Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, and the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education on a variety of workers’ compensation topics.

I am an avid bicycle enthusiast, and I commute to the office on two-wheels whenever I can.

Deborah Weiss Fertel

I have been with Katz, Friedman since 1985. Originally my law practice was focused primarily on representing injured workers in their workers’ compensation claims, and I have been active in promoting education on workers’ compensation issues by speaking to client groups and giving seminars.

I have been an arbitrator for the Cook County Mandatory Arbitration system since 1990.

I now also handle claims for Social Security disability benefits and I would like to help you with your disability claim.

Christopher Mose

I joined Katz Friedman in 2002. Before that I worked for a law firm representing Teamster locals and unions in the building trades.

I am dedicated to helping injured workers, and take pride in delivering favorable results for my clients. Many of my past clients have worked in the automotive industry and have been injured due to repetitive motion.

I have worked on a lot of workers’ compensation cases, and have given speeches on workers’ compensation issues to unions and other clients, as well as to other lawyers for the National Business Institute.

I would like to help you with your Social Security disability claim.
